Excellencies,
Friends,
Today, we celebrate United Nations Day.
We honor the entry into force of the Charter of the United Nations, the north star that has guided our multilateral mission for over 79 years.
It is the foundation of our shared pursuit of a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world. One that spares future generations from the scourge of war.
Since its founding, the United Nations has worked tirelessly to fulfill this mission—whether through peacemaking, peacekeeping, humanitarian aid, or fostering the international cooperation necessary to confront our global challenges.
As we speak, those challenges are more complex than ever.
From the climate crisis to violent conflicts to extreme poverty, no single nation can solve these issues alone. Collective action is not just an ideal, it is our responsibility.
As it is also our responsibility to overcome our differences, which far from dividing us, offer the strength and perspective we need to address our common challenges.
With the recent adoption of Pact for the Future, we now have a unique opportunity to build on it and close the gap between aspiration and action.
We have an opportunity to recommit to the Purposes and Principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
I also want to take the opportunity, on this day, to salute and thank all UN personnel and their families for their outstanding service to the timeless principles of the United Nations Charter.
On this United Nations Day, let us recommit to these shared ideals and continue working together for a better future for all.
