The Department of Global Communications (DGC) of the United Nations has established a uniform brand standard for all United Nations websites. This standard is designed to ensure a visually consistent user experience as web users navigate across United Nations websites.
All United Nations entities publishing publicly available websites are required to comply with these standards.
Requests for the web style guide to view the branding elements or access the components from the library can be submitted via the DGC.9 form on iSeek. United Nations entities are encouraged to contact DGC/WSS (dgc-unwebstandards@sby168.com) in the early stages of any web publishing project to receive appropriate advice and guidance. Sharing your deliverables – such as wireframes, mock-ups, and campaign assets – will allow WSS to identify potential issues in the early stages and avoid costly remediation at a later stage.
A multilingual United Nations reflects the universality of the Organization. Multilingualism is a core value of the UN and plays a key role in promoting unity in diversity, international understanding, tolerance and dialogue. The full and equitable treatment of all the official languages - Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish – in all its information and communications activities include digital content.
Accessible websites benefit everyone, not just those with disabilities; text is more readable, content is better organized, and the design is clean and simple. The UN websites include several features designed to improve accessibility for users with temporary or long-term disabilities, following the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) of the World Wide Web Consortium Web Accessibility Initiative (W3C WAI).
